GUNSnLASERS: a website for four leisure parks in Rīga

GUNSnLASERS runs four active-leisure parks in Riga, and its site has one job: to get friends, families, schools and companies to book a game, a party or a team event. FORGET rebuilt it, after years on WordPress, as a static Astro site in Latvian, English and Russian, deployed to Cloudflare Pages. The GUNSnLASERS team now edits every page, price, photo and redirect in a Decap CMS studio, and each publish is live within a couple of minutes.

Every page edited in a Decap CMS studio

Each activity, park, event, party pack and blog post is a form in the studio, with a live preview of the page beside it. Latvian sits on the left and English or Russian on the right, and one Publish commits both to GitLab; the site rebuilds and is live in a couple of minutes. A build check ties every text, icon and video on the site to a field the team can edit.

Key facts

  • Static Astro 7 site generated from 25 content collections, with no front-end framework and every page's CSS inlined
  • Decap CMS on GitLab with PKCE sign-in: each publish is a commit that GitLab CI checks, builds and deploys to Cloudflare Pages
  • Latvian, English and Russian, each with its own URL words, hreflang tags and a build check that fails on a missing translation
  • Moved from WordPress: 130 blog posts imported, 596 redirects the team edits in the studio, and 410 Gone for retired addresses
  • Every booking button opens book.gunsnlasers.lv in the visitor's language; event and corporate pages can set their own link
  • Photos ship as AVIF and WebP in several sizes: a 6.3 MB camera upload costs a visitor 49.9 kB at 1280 px
